Alberto Pujols was raised in the Dominican Republic. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted Pujols in the 13th round of the 1999 draft. In 2001, he won a spot on the Opening Day roster. In June of his rookie year, he was named to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the first Cardinal rookie selected since 1955. Pujols' phenomenal rookie season helped the Cardinals tie for the National League Central Division title. Pujols was unanimously named the National League Rookie of the Year. On July 4th, 2008, Albert hit his 300th career home run becoming the fifth-youngest player in MLB history to reach that milestone. On September 1st 2008, Pujols hit his 30th home run of the season to start his career with eight consecutive 30 HR seasons, the first player to do so in MLB history. Pujols hit his 100th RBI on, September 11th to become the first player in MLB history to start his career with eight seasons of at least 30 HR and 100 RBI. • Seven-time All-Star (2001, 2003-08) • Became the fastest player to get career home run 300 from their 1st • Became only the second player to hit 300 home runs in his first eight seasons.
